A binaural beat is made by your brain: each ear hears a slightly different tone, and you perceive a slow pulse at the difference between them. Put your headphones on and press play above. Choose the beat that suits the moment, add brown noise or rain to soften the tones, and set a timer or a Pomodoro cycle.
How binaural beats work
When your left ear hears 200 Hz and your right ear 210 Hz, the two tones never mix in the air: your brain combines them and perceives a beat at 10 Hz. That is why binaural beats only work with headphones; through speakers you just hear two close tones.
The beats here are pure tones generated in your browser at exact frequencies, so the beat stays perfectly steady for as long as you listen.
Which frequency to choose
- 40 Hz (gamma): associated with focused attention.
- 18 Hz (beta): an alert, active state, for tasks that need energy.
- 10 Hz (alpha): calm, relaxed focus, for reading or light work.
- 6 Hz (theta): deep relaxation and daydreaming, to wind down.
- 2 Hz (delta): the rhythm of deep sleep, to fall asleep.
What the research says
Studies on binaural beats give mixed results. Some report small effects on attention, anxiety or mood, others find none, and the effect depends a lot on the person. Treat them as one more way to set a mood and a routine, not as a guaranteed change in brain activity, and stop if they bother you.
If you have epilepsy or a seizure disorder, ask a doctor before using rhythmic sound or light stimulation.
How the Pomodoro timer works
Four simple steps. No account, nothing to install: it runs right here in your browser.
- 11
Pick what to work on
Add a task and estimate how many pomodoros it needs. The active task is credited automatically when a session ends.
- 22
Start the timer
Press Start (or the Space bar) and give the task your full attention until the bell rings.
- 33
Take a real break
Step away from the screen for 5 minutes. Stretch, drink some water, rest your eyes.
- 44
Repeat, then rest longer
After four pomodoros, take a longer 15–30 minute break. Your stats and streak update on their own.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need headphones for binaural beats?
Yes. Each ear must hear its own tone; through speakers the tones mix in the air and the effect disappears.
Which binaural beat is best for studying?
Many people use 40 Hz or 18 Hz for active work and 10 Hz for calmer reading. Try each one during a 25-minute Pomodoro and keep the one that feels right.
Are binaural beats safe?
At a comfortable volume they are just tones. Keep the volume low and take breaks; if you have epilepsy, ask a doctor first.
Can I mix binaural beats with other sounds?
Yes. Add brown noise, pink noise or rain under Add to the mix. The beat still works as long as you wear headphones.
Are these binaural beats free?
Yes, free, without ads or an account.
