White noise is the classic hiss of a fan or a detuned radio: every frequency at the same level, so it masks voices, traffic and sudden sounds. Press play above to start it. It is generated live in your browser, without any loop gap, and you can soften it to pink or brown noise, add a background like rain, and set a timer.
What is white noise?
White noise is a random signal with equal energy at every frequency, the way white light contains every colour. To the ear it sounds bright and hissy, because we hear more detail in the high frequencies.
That brightness is what makes it a good mask: a sudden sound has to be louder than the noise to stand out. The version here is very slightly softened at the very top of the spectrum, so it hisses less without losing its masking power.
White noise for focus and for sleep
In an open-plan office, a café or a shared room, white noise turns unpredictable sounds into a steady background. To study, use it at a low volume with the Pomodoro timer: it plays while you work and pauses during your breaks.
For sleep, many people prefer pink or brown noise, which are deeper and less tiring over a whole night. Try them with the buttons above; the timer can fade the sound out after 1, 2 or 8 hours.
Choosing the right noise colour
- White noise: bright and even, the strongest mask for voices.
- Pink noise: softer, like steady rain; good for long sessions.
- Brown noise: deep and rumbling, popular for focus and with people with ADHD.
- Green noise: centred on the middle frequencies, like a distant waterfall.
- Deep brown noise: almost only the rumble, best with headphones.
How the Pomodoro timer works
Four simple steps. No account, nothing to install: it runs right here in your browser.
- 11
Pick what to work on
Add a task and estimate how many pomodoros it needs. The active task is credited automatically when a session ends.
- 22
Start the timer
Press Start (or the Space bar) and give the task your full attention until the bell rings.
- 33
Take a real break
Step away from the screen for 5 minutes. Stretch, drink some water, rest your eyes.
- 44
Repeat, then rest longer
After four pomodoros, take a longer 15–30 minute break. Your stats and streak update on their own.
Everything you need to focus. Nothing you don't.
A calm, distraction-free timer with the tools serious students and makers actually use.
Pomodoro, Flowtime & countdowns
Classic 25/5, 50/10 or your own durations, a count-up Flowtime mode and simple countdowns, exact even in background tabs.

Frequently asked questions
Is white noise bad for your ears?
Not at a sensible volume. Keep it well below the level of a normal conversation, especially with headphones and for long periods: it should cover distractions, not drown everything.
Is this white noise free and without ads?
Yes, completely free, with no ads and no account.
Does the white noise need a connection?
Only to load the page. The noise itself is generated in your browser, so no audio file is downloaded.
How do I set a sleep timer?
Choose 1, 2 or 8 hours under Timer before or while it plays. At the end, the noise fades out over a few seconds.
Will the noise loop or click?
No. Each noise is 30 seconds of stereo sound whose end flows into its start, and it crossfades into itself, so there is no gap.
