25 minute timer

Focus25:00

Twenty-five minutes is the length of one classic pomodoro, the focus block at the heart of the Pomodoro Technique. The countdown on this page is already set to 25 minutes and starts with one click or the Space bar. It runs a single session, perfect for one focused sprint without a full cycle of breaks.

Why 25 minutes? The Pomodoro Technique in brief

The Pomodoro Technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s and named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used as a student. The method is simple: work on one task for 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break, and after four rounds take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.

Twenty-five minutes is long enough to make real progress and short enough that starting feels easy. The fixed end point also changes how you work: knowing the bell will ring soon makes it easier to ignore notifications and to postpone the urge to check something "just for a second".

A single countdown or the full Pomodoro cycle?

This page is a plain 25-minute countdown: it rings once and stops. That is ideal for one sprint before a meeting, a one-off focus block, or when you prefer to take breaks whenever you feel like it.

If you want the complete method, with the 5-minute break starting on its own and a long break after several sessions, use the Pomodoro timer on the home page. It cycles through work and breaks for you and also offers longer presets such as 50/10, 52/17 and 90/20.

  • Use this 25 minute timer for one focused sprint, a timed exercise or a small deadline.
  • Use the home page Pomodoro timer for a whole morning or afternoon of work with automatic breaks.
  • Either way, finished sessions count toward your daily goal and streak in the stats.

How the Pomodoro timer works

Four simple steps. No account, nothing to install: it runs right here in your browser.

  1. 11

    Pick what to work on

Add a task and estimate how many pomodoros it needs. The active task is credited automatically when a session ends.

  2. 22

    Start the timer

Press Start (or the Space bar) and give the task your full attention until the bell rings.

  3. 33

    Take a real break

Step away from the screen for 5 minutes. Stretch, drink some water, rest your eyes.

  4. 44

    Repeat, then rest longer

After four pomodoros, take a longer 15–30 minute break. Your stats and streak update on their own.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set a 25 minute timer?

Just press Start or the Space bar: the countdown here is already set to 25 minutes. Use the chips or the minutes field if you want a different duration, and press R to reset.

What is the difference between this page and the Pomodoro timer?

This page runs one 25-minute countdown and then stops. The Pomodoro timer on the home page chains work sessions and breaks automatically, so you do not have to restart anything between rounds.

Will the timer ring if my tab is in the background?

Yes. The countdown stays accurate in background tabs, through sleep and after a reload. The alarm rings at zero, and you can also turn on a desktop notification.

Is 25 minutes the best length for focus?

It is a popular starting point, not a universal rule. Some people prefer shorter blocks on tired days and longer ones for deep work, so try a few lengths and compare your stats.
