Two minutes is the length of a tooth-brushing session, a strong cup of tea and the famous two-minute rule. The countdown above is already set: press Start or the Space bar, and a clear alarm tells you when time is up.
The two-minute rule, with a timer
Productivity author David Allen popularised a simple rule: if something takes less than two minutes, do it now instead of writing it down. James Clear later flipped it for habits: make any new habit start with a version that takes two minutes, like reading one page or putting on your running shoes.
A visible countdown makes both rules easier to follow. Start the timer, do the small thing, and stop when it rings. If you keep going, the habit has already begun.
Two-minute ideas
- Kids' tooth brushing, with the countdown in fullscreen so they can see the end.
- Steeping black tea (green tea usually needs a bit less).
- A quick tidy of your desk before the next pomodoro.
- Stretching your neck, shoulders and wrists between two sessions.
- Timed presentations, speed rounds and board game turns.
How the Pomodoro timer works
Four simple steps. No account, nothing to install: it runs right here in your browser.
- 11
Pick what to work on
Add a task and estimate how many pomodoros it needs. The active task is credited automatically when a session ends.
- 22
Start the timer
Press Start (or the Space bar) and give the task your full attention until the bell rings.
- 33
Take a real break
Step away from the screen for 5 minutes. Stretch, drink some water, rest your eyes.
- 44
Repeat, then rest longer
After four pomodoros, take a longer 15–30 minute break. Your stats and streak update on their own.
