5 minute timer

Focus
25:00

Five minutes is the length of a Pomodoro break, and a surprisingly productive block on its own. The countdown above is set to 5 minutes: press Start or the Space bar, and a gentle alarm rings at the end, even from another tab.

Why five minutes works so well

Five minutes is short enough that you never argue with yourself about starting, and long enough to finish something real: a tidy desk, a set of flashcards, a short meditation, a reply to that email. It is also the standard Pomodoro break, which is why it feels natural to so many people.

If you struggle to start a big task, try a five-minute "starter" session: promise yourself only five minutes. Once the alarm rings, you'll often want to continue, and the Pomodoro timer on the home page can take it from there.

Five-minute ideas

  • A real break: stand up, drink water, look out of the window.
  • A guided or silent meditation with soft rain or forest sounds.
  • A cleaning sprint: one surface, one drawer, one corner of the room.
  • Classroom activities, group work and presentation rehearsals.
  • A quick bodyweight workout: squats, push-ups and a plank.
  • Planning the next Pomodoro session and choosing the first task.

How the Pomodoro timer works

Four simple steps. No account, nothing to install: it runs right here in your browser.

  1. 11

    Pick what to work on

Add a task and estimate how many pomodoros it needs. The active task is credited automatically when a session ends.

  2. 22

    Start the timer

Press Start (or the Space bar) and give the task your full attention until the bell rings.

  3. 33

    Take a real break

Step away from the screen for 5 minutes. Stretch, drink some water, rest your eyes.

  4. 44

    Repeat, then rest longer

After four pomodoros, take a longer 15–30 minute break. Your stats and streak update on their own.
